Fly Her And Keep Her

from Fly Her And Keep Her by Sara Curtin

/

about

Inspired by Genevieve McClendon's painting "Keep Her", I wrote about the wild, strong, and sometimes unharnessed quality of creativity and artistic inspiration. It comes when it wants and you have to be able to work at it, to actively hold on, or else it might just slip away.

The questions I pose in the choruses ("Does only foolish love die?" and "Do only foolish dreams die?") are my interpretations of the age-old: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it...

lyrics

I'll give you a kite
You can fly her, but keep her
Red and white
Pull her string tighter
She'll slip away
Promise you'll keep her
A muted gray
The sky around her turns silver

We watch as love dies.
Does only foolish love die?

You're miles below
And she's begging you keep her
But take her slow
You're paralyzed by her
For if a kite, you can fly her and keep her
But if a bird, then mourn.
You're going to lose her.

We watch as love dies.
Does only foolish love die?
We watch as dreams die.
Do only foolish dreams die?
